Big Lesson 5 – Hebrews 12:5-6 (caring discipline)

Your heavenly Father God can be cuddly as it says in Romans 8, Abba Father (means Daddy God) with you on His lap.

There is also His tough love that teaches you to be strong so you can cope with life better. This kind of love is prudent e.g. when you put your hand too close to the fire place you get a smack on your wrist from Dad but you never burn your hand again for the rest of your life.

Hebrews 12:5‭-‬6 ESV

“And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.””

When things go wrong, ask yourself the question, is God disciplining me for something I have done wrong?

Maybe He has been trying to tell you for ages and you had been suffering lots but you did not change as you did not know.

If you start asking, finding out through prayer and then repenting of whatever it is, you will start to have a much more successful and joyful life. He is raising you as His child.

God is love and He will love you however He can in whatever situation or place you are in, in order to help you.

N.B; the book mentioned above is amazing. The Father figure is the most vital relationship you can have therefore this book will significantly strengthen your Christian walk i.e. people say “he knows the Father”.

The Father is greater than Jesus and He is the sovereign ruler of the whole universe.

A nice old hymn about your Father in heaven:

Father God I wonder how I managed to exist without the knowledge of your parenthood and your loving care.

But now I am your son, I am adopted in your family, I can never be alone as Father God your here beside me.

I will sing your praises.

I will sing your praises.

I will sing your praises for forever more.

You are His biological child and He can never let you go.

He is outside of time and knows the future perfectly thus He is perfectly powerful.

He is God thus He can pause time, rearrange things and then press play again e.g.

  • World war 1 1914 Christmas truce football match.
  • Joshua 10:13 when the sun stopped (how we measure time).

Sleep 101 – Earplugs are the way forward. I know but try this / 2 hour theory / 20 minute reset

Earplugs are the way forward. I know but try this

Did you try ear plugs once and not get on with them and then take them out as you thought they were not comfortable.

Do you still get broken sleep because of the noise but will not use ear plugs.

When you actually manage to get used to them, they are amazing and your sleep pattern gets super blessed though. It is so worth getting used to them as it is prudence for a night when you have to sleep.

Let me tell you how to get used to them:

  • Get really tired one night and put them in thus you will just sleep and that is one night done getting used to them.
  • Conquer the belief that they are not good by counteracting with the belief that the prudence for the long-term benefits are worth it.
  • I reckon roughly three or four nights getting used to them and you will think they are super.

Oh by the way, if you have trouble hearing as you have blocked up lugholes, then gently warm up some pure virgin olive oil and put it in a very clean squeezy bottle with a thin end (like a syringe) and put it in your ears to soak for 2 minutes when you are laying on your side. Do this for a few days and tidy up with a tissue each time obviously.
Otex eardrops is even better if you can afford.

My 2 hour theory

Are you tired and know so well that you need to sleep but you are laying there annoyed and worried about tomorrow as you cannot sleep?
When you lay down, your pulse drops and your body regains energy anyway.

Why not do that for 30 minutes, an hour and thrn learn 2 hours. Lie down and tell yourself that your body is regaining energy and if I sleep then I sleep (nothing to worry about then).
What you will find is that with this attitude you will soon sleep anyway.

20 minute reset

Did you get little sleep last night and feel tired today?

Do not go to sleep for 7 hours in the day time to catch up as this will mess up your sleep pattern. Do that if you are truly exhausted though.

What I am saying is set your alarm and try sitting in your bed or a comfy chair for 20 minutes and just relax with your eyes closed. It does wonders to pick you up for the rest of the day and it feels like a reset for you.

Satisfaction in thankfulness to God for His gifts, the best bitterness remedy

John Piper is a famous preacher and he once said “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”.

I really do believe this is right.

Also did you know that the opposite of bitterness is thankfulness and being thankful gets rid of the bitterness.


Make yourself a coffee and sit down with your favourite bible version. Maybe read a Psalm for a bit of faith and just think of the good things in your life and say thankyou to God for them and why you like them.

This will be satisfying and enjoyable if done right:

– “Jesus, thankyou for your steadfast love in giving me this house after I was homeless before, I am so happy to have a roof and warmth. Even if I am alone this Christmas, you are with me always”.

– “Jesus, thankyou for coffee lattes that are delicous and they do not cost much”.

– “Thankyou for chocolate, it is a rather nice thing, I am so thankful that we are in an easy country.”

– “Jesus thankyou for my warm snuggly dressing gown and slippers, they help me to be cosy”.

– “Jesus thankyou that I have you as my closest friend who holds me by my right hand. I know I am homeless, but let’s layer up and have a coffee and a prayer in the tent”.

– Think of your own ones. Maybe for your family or for you health but remember to say why you like it so that it works and say thankyou.

Body heat vital information

If winter is coming soon in your part of the world then we need to keep warm for it – getting ill because of the cold will hurt you and the ones you love as you will be less able to help them.



We lose the most heat and energy through our head and hands:
• Wear fingerless gloves to keep your hands warm and so that you can tap your smartphone screen or phone keys.
• Get a nice comfy beanie hat.
• Get back home and cup your hands under the hot tap. Careful not too hot. This feels nice after being out and it is amazing how much it picks you up.



Wear layers of clothes:
• Don’t wear two thick top layers, wear three or more thin top layers. Air heats up between the layers and keeps you warm, that is how it works. Have front zips on the top layers so you can control the heat
• Use thermal underwear as a base layer for your trousers and top. £15 roughly to get both of these.
• Tuck your thermal trouser base layer into your socks and your first top layer into your trousers.


Take vitamin C dissolvable tablets once a day and you are much less likely to get a cold. Use a slice of lemon in water.
Look after yourselves and keep warm please ☺
